Memorial Biography

I am sad to report that Dan McIntyre passed away in the early morning hours of June 21, 2022.  He was under hospice care at our home in Palm Springs, California at the time.  I was fortunate to be by his side as my dear husband took his last breath and it was a very peaceful passing.  He has been battling pancreatic cancer since he was diagnosed in November 2020.  He fought valiantly and survived for a longer time than most who have pancreatic cancer since it can be very aggressive.  I take comfort in knowing that now he is out of pain and in a better place.  Still, the idea of life going on without him is hard for me to imagine at this time. I will distribute a formal obituary when I have it available and it will be posted at the El Camino Memorial site. Dan’s wishes were that he be entombed in a crypt as opposed to burial below ground.  We started looking for a crypt space last summer, but none were available in Palm Springs.  We were in San Diego for 6 weeks last summer where Dan was undergoing proton therapy to fight cancer.  While we were in San Diego, we investigated our options.   We located a crypt space in a beautiful mausoleum at El Camino Memorial Park in the Sorrento Valley area, which is very near La Jolla.  Dan lived in San Diego for several years prior to moving to Dallas, Texas in 2008 (which is where we met).  He felt that would be a good final resting place for him.  The weather is certainly better than in Palm Springs in the summer.  We will hold a small service on Saturday, July 2, at 2:00 p.m. in an outdoor area of the Serenity Mausoleum near the crypt.  Dan was more spiritual than religious, so it will be a fairly short service.  A simple reception will be held following the end of the service.  Details of the reception are being worked It was Dan’s wish that I hold a large Celebration of Life in Palm Springs in a couple of months to allow time for many out-of-town friends and family to plan a trip to attend.  Dan was loved by everyone, so I expect it will be a large gathering.  At the Celebration, we will have an opportunity to celebrate Dan’s incredible life, and people can share their stories of how Dan impacted their lives.  We are currently planning to hold the Celebration in August pending confirmation of availability with the venue and caterer.  Although the weather is quite hot at that time of year in Palm Springs, we will hold the Celebration indoors so it will be comfortable for everyone.  As soon as I can finalize the details for the Celebration, I will be sending that information to you so that you can begin making plans to attend.
